Book Review of
The Inheritance Games Book 1
Lynn's Review
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes was published in 2020.
I added The Inheritance Games to my list of YA books to read this year because Grace, who is an 8th-grade history teacher, recommended it. She had read and enjoyed it. She also knew it was a popular series.
I had heard of The Inheritance Games series, but I thought it was fantasy. I had no idea that is wast a mystery series.
I started this when we were snowed/iced in, and it was a great read.
Avery is just trying to make it through high school while living with her sister after her mom dies. Her fortune changes when Tobias Hawthorne, a billionaire, leaves her his fortune. Unfortunately, she has to live in the house she just inherited with the fourHawthorne grandsons.
Along with the fortune she inherited, she also inherits a house and a family full of puzzles to solve.
I loved that this book was full of mystery and puzzles.
I also liked that it did not read like most YA books. The main characters are teens, but there are plenty of adults in the book, so I think it is a book that adults would enjoy. I think it would make a great book to read and discuss with kids.
I will say that this book is listed as 7th grade and up. Given a few things in the book, I would say it is more for 9th grade and up; however, it might depend on the kid reading it.
I can’t wait to read the rest of the books in The Inheritance Games series.
