Book Review of
The Murder of Mr. Wickham
Lynn's Review
The Murder of Mr. Wickham by Claudia Gray is a mystery book. This one is for fans of Jane Austen.
I heard about this on Modern Mrs. Darcy. I think it was her podcast, but it could have been in her one of her Book Club or Patreon videos.
I would describe this as a fan fiction type of book. It takes some of the characters from various Jane Austen novels and brings them together for a house party at Emma’s and Mr. Knightly’s country estate.
The party is going great until Mr. Wickam shows up. It appears that Mr. Wickam has been involved in more than Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy’s lives. Mr. Wickam is murdered and everyone is now a suspect.
This was a fun read. I read this one on a recent trip to Branson.
If you love Jane Austen you will probably enjoy this. I thought it was a creative way to take Jane Austen’s characters and share them in a new way.
If you are looking for a quick fun read you will probably enjoy this one. It is another book that would make a great summer or vacation read.
However, I thought the story and characters wrapped up a little too neatly in some ways. I wanted more stories for some characters and less for others. I also found some people totally different from what they were in the Jane Austen books, so they felt a bit unrealistic to me.
The author has another book that was just released, and I might get it to read on vacation later this summer.
This was probably a three-star read, maybe a four-star read if I was rating it just as a quick, easy, fun read.
