Book Review of
The Art Thief
Lynn's Review
The Art Thief by Michael Finkel was published in 2023. It is a true crime book about art.
The Art Thief is the second book by Michael Finkle that I have read and I loved them both.
I read Stranger In the Woods as part of my Nonfiction Books for Every State Challenge. When I saw that he had a new true crime book out I knew that I wanted to read it.
The Art Thief is a great book for fans of The Feather Thief. Like The Feather Thief, it is a true crime story without murder and graphic gory details.
I want to just say that I am not a huge art fan. It isn’t that I don’t like art, it is just something that I don’t know a lot about. And although I like to visit an occasional museum, I don’t know a lot about art and art history. But I loved The Art Thief.
After I read The Feather Thief I said that I had no idea that feathers and fly fishing could be so interesting. I would say the same thing about The Art Thief. I had no idea that art, museums, and art history could be so interesting.
This is a bizarre, yet fascinating story of Stephane Breitwiser and his girlfriend, who travel Europe stealing art. It took years for authorities to track them down and solve the case.
Over the years they stole millions of dollars, possibly more, in art. This is a story of obsession, love, art, crime, and more.
If you love true crime be sure to add this one to your to-be-read list.
