The Hazelbourne Ladies Motorcycle and Flying Club by Helen Simonson is a historical fiction book published in 2024.

This book is set in 1919, England, and covers the years immediately after WWI. Things changed during the war. Women went to work doing the jobs that men did before the war. After the war, it changed again, when women were expected to give up the work the had been doing, so that the men could have their jobs back. 

This book follows Constance, who helped run an estate during the war. Now, she has to find a job. When helping as a lady’s companion, she travels to Hazelbourne, where she meets Poppy, who runs a taxi and delivery service, and Poppy’s brother, a pilot wounded during the war. 

I really enjoyed the first seventy-five percent of this book. I thought it was so well done—that is, until the end. 

It wasn’t really the ending that I didn’t like. It was how they got to the end. If I say more than that, I will spoil it.

I am glad I read it, though. If you liked Helen Simonson’s other books, you will probably enjoy this one.
