The Carousel by Rosamunde Pilcher was published in 1982. 

Shell Seekers and Winter Solstice are Rosamunde Pilcher’s better-known books, but she wrote many others. 

I love Rosamund Pilcher’s writing, but have only read three of her books, so I am on a mission to read all her books. 

The Carousel is set in 1980s England. The main character is Prue, who works in an art gallery. After her aunt Phoebe hurts herself, Prue goes and stays with her for a few weeks. 

While on the train to her aunt’s house, she meets Charlotte, who is visiting her grandmother. 

Charlotte ends up being the story’s focus, but Prue, her family, and Daniel, an artist, are all part of Charlotte’s life. 

Rosamunde Pilcher’s The Shell Seekers and several of her other books are 600+ pages. They cover years in the lives of the characters. The Carousel is shorter and only covers a few weeks in the main characters’ lives, but it still has the feel of Rosamunde Pilcher’s other books. 

Not much happens in Rosamunde Pilcher’s books, but at the same time, a lot happens. Many people describe them as quiet books, and I can see why. But I would describe them more as books about real life. They read a lot like real life would: with family, friends, problems, love, marriage, divorce, and just everyday life issues. 

If you love Rosamunde Pilcher, I think you will enjoy this one.
