Book Review of
Be Ready When Luck Happens
Lynn's Review
Be Ready When Luck Happens by Ina Garten is Ina Garten’s memoir published in 2024.
I love food, cooking, and memoirs, so when I saw that Ina Garten wrote a memoir, I knew I wanted to read it.
I have watched a few Barefoot Contessa shows over the years, and I own one or two of her cookbooks, but I would not call myself a big Ina Garten fan. I am familiar with her and know who she is, but I did not know a lot about her beyond that.
I loved this memoir. Ina’s life was fascinating to learn about.
Ina’s childhood was complicated and lonely. Ina and her husband, Jeffrey, met at a young age, got married, traveled, lived around the world for Jeffery’s job, and remodeled homes together. Jeffrey helped her grow up and overcome her childhood scars.
After working in government jobs, Ina knew it was time for a change. When she had the opportunity to buy The Barefoot Contessa shop in The Hamptons, she knew she needed to do it.
Besides cooking for Jeffrey and friends, she knew nothing about the food and restaurant world. But she loved food and serving others and decided to try it.
What she created was a business and brand that quickly got the attention of many.
She eventually sold her store, but her cookbooks and Food Network show brought her cooking and recipes to people worldwide.
I love how she talks about the importance of beautiful and delicious food as well as food that is simple and easy to make.
If you love memoirs and cooking, I think you might enjoy this one.
It left me wanting to cook more of Ina Garten’s recipes.
