Book Review of
An Uncertain Road
Lynn's Review
An Uncertain Road by Abbey Downey was published in 2024. It is historical fiction.
I decided to read An Uncertain Road after I heard an interview with the author. I loved the idea of a female race car driver in the early 1900s.
The book is inspired by a real woman race car driver, Joan Newton Cuneo.
This book is fine, but it is an example of what I don’t like in clean historical fiction, especially what many would consider clean fiction.
I thought the love story part of this book was so unrealistic. At times it was so bad. The conversations and interactions between characters did not read at all like real conversations and interactions would have. So many clean fiction books are not realistic. It in order to make it a clean romance, they write a romance that is not true to life.
I like books like this after reading heavy books. I see why others read them, but so often they don’t read at all like real life.
