Book Review of
Bad City
Lynn's Review
Bad City by Paul Pringle is a true crime book about the University of Southern California. It was published in 2022.
In April 2016, Paul Pringle, a reporter for the Los Angeles Times, received a tip about a young woman who had overdosed in a fancy Los Angeles hotel and that Dr. Carmen Puliafito, the head of USC’s medical school, was involved.
Through this tip, Paul Pringle discovered two major scandals at USC. The investigation revealed crimes, corruption, and cover-ups both at USC and at the Los Angeles Times.
It showed how money and power help people get their way, not only at USC but also at the paper where Paul Pringle worked.
Paul Pringle is a journalist who brings this true crime story to life. It is an excellent narrative nonfiction book that will be one of my favorite nonfiction books for the year.
I love books written by journalists because they know how to write compelling stories. They bring stories to life and make them interesting. They bring out just the exact details you need and want to know.
Bad City by Paul Pringle is excellent for those who enjoy true crime journalism. It would also be a great gift for a dad, husband, or brother who enjoys reading.
After I finished this, I told my husband he needed to read it. He is currently listening to it on audio and is loving it.
