Book Review of
Bluebird
Lynn's Review
Bluebird by Genevieve Graham is set in prohibition-era Canada. Did you know that prohibition affected more than just the U.S.? I knew very little about prohibition besides what I learned in history class and a few books written about that time period. I had no idea though Canada dealt with similar laws, although not as long as the U.S. did.
I am not always a fan of dual or multiple timelines in a book, but in Bluebird, it works well.
The modern-day timeline is about a museum curator who comes across a family mystery that involves whiskey during Prohibition. The 1918 timeline involves a wounded Canadian tunneler who meets a Canadian nurse at a field hospital while recovering. They return home to Canada with the scars from the war and a home that has changed drastically due to Prohibition.
I loved this book because I learned a lot about Canadian history that I had no clue about. This is the second book by Genevieve Graham that I have read and I can’t wait to read more of her books.
If you love historical fiction and are looking for something a little different, I think you might enjoy this one.
I would consider this one PG, because it was fairly clean, but it does deal with war and life during the Prohibition, so some might consider it more PG-13.
