Book Review of
Born Lucky
Lynn's Review
Born Lucky by Leland Vittert is a memoir published in 2025.
Leland Vittert is a national reporter who has worked for Fox News and News Nation and who only recently revealed that he has autism.
It is no secret that I love memoirs, especially ones on topics that I know nothing about. That is exactly why I picked up this book to read.
No one in my family has autism, and although I knew a few people with family members with autism, none of my close friends have children with autism, so it is something that I know very little about.
I know that there is a wide range of autism and what people deal with, and I know that the topic can be controversial, but I really enjoyed this book. I am guessing that some will feel differently, though.
In Born Lucky, Leland Vittert shares his story of growing up with autism in a world and time that is very different from today. He shares how his parents, especially his dad, helped him adapt to the world, because he knew the world would not adapt to Leland.
Leland Vittert also shares the bullying from both students and teachers he had to endure, along with the lessons it taught him.
This book was at times sad and made me cry, but I also found it encouraging and hopeful.
Leland’s family loved him, and they helped give him the tools he needed to survive in a world that is not friendly to people like him.
I found this book inspiring and encouraging. It is a story of family, sacrifice, and endurance through the tough times.
