Lynn's Review

Bury Your Dead

Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny was published in 2010. It is the sixth book in the Inspector Gamache series.

I have heard people say that this series gets better and better. I would agree with that. I enjoyed the first few books in the series enough to keep going. I loved them so much that I bought the entire series for my 50th birthday. Book six was by far my favorite, though.

I find it hard to review this series without too many spoilers, and no one wants spoilers on a mystery series. So, I will give a brief review without spoilers.

This book is like three mysteries woven into one story. I found it brilliant.

Inspector Gamache is in Quebec to rest and recover after the hardest job of his life. But he can’t ever truly escape. A murder happens in Quebec that he is drawn into.

All the while, he has sent Jean-Guy Beauvoir back to Three Pines because he thinks there was a mistake in the case involving the death of the hermit and Oliver.

Weaved into all that is a ton of history about Quebec and the people that live there that I had no clue about. It made for a very interesting read.

I love how Louise Penny writes these books about Three Pines, but she often takes you out of Three Pines simultaneously.

She is quickly becoming one of my favorite mystery writers. Or maybe she has already made the list since I read two of her books this month alone.
