Book Review of
Carved In Ebony
Lynn's Review
Carved In Ebony by Jasmine L. Holmes is a Christian nonfiction book published in 2021.
I bought this book shortly after it was released. I love to read biographies. This isn’t exactly a biography since it contains ten short biographies, but it is the same idea.
I have mixed feelings about this book. The main reason is that I listened to it on audio, and I did not enjoy the narrator. I own the print version of it, but for some reason, I decided to listen to it on audio. I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had switched to the print copy.
I started it on a trip back in October and have slowly listened to it since then. It was easy to do that since each chapter is about a different person. Books like this are perfect for starting and stopping as you have time.
This book highlights ten black Christian women who helped share the gospel by building schools, becoming missionaries, and changing laws.
I loved that this book highlighted women that I knew nothing about. Jasmine Holmes extensively researched these women, which is shown in the book. Her passion for sharing about these women came through in her writing.
So, although I did not love the audio version of the book, I did enjoy the book overall. If you like Christian biographies, especially about little known people, I think that you will enjoy this one
