Downton Shabby by Hopwood DePree was published in 2022. It is a nonfiction memoir about restoring an English estate. 

Downton Shabby was a fun, quick, and easy nonfiction read. My husband bought me this book as a gift because he knew that I liked memoirs. This book made the perfect gift because it was different than any of the other books in my to-be-read stack. I picked it up to read right away. 

This is the story of Hopwood DePree, a Hollywood producer, who gives it all up to save his family’s ancestral home in England. 

It is a great book for anyone who loves HGTV or Downton Abbey. I thought the book was an interesting way to learn something about English culture and what it takes to restore and take care of an old English estate. 

Hopwood, like most Americans, had no idea the work that it would take to save his family’s estate. In his book, he takes you along for part of the journey.
