Ella Minnow Pea

This year, I tried two different book services. One did not go well, but the other, including Ella Minnow Pea, had several hits.

I started Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn on a Friday Night, and I believe I finished it on Sunday. It was that much fun.

I would say that I had to get about fifty pages in to get invested, but then I was there. It is like a word puzzle.

A town is losing letters of the alphabet as the town’s statue loses letters. People are getting arrested left and right for crimes of losing those letters, and one gets to see people of the town send letters while slowly losing words and having to find new ways and words to express themselves.

It is just a good time. It is a lovely and creative way to get invested in a crazy small town while learning to read and think a new way like the townspeople.

It is also a lovely expression of how not to trust the government and how sometimes the government makes stupid rules and tries to validate them. The townspeople have a perspective as well, which includes various stages of people realizing that this won’t work out well.

Thankfully, there is a savior for our townspeople to prevent their demise of no letters at all.
