Fifth Avenue Glamour Girl

Fifth Avenue Glamour Girl by Renee Rosen is a historical fiction book published in 2023.

Fifth Avenue Glamour Girl is not my typical historical fiction read, but after seeing an Instagram review, I knew I wanted to read it.

The book is based on the life of Estee Lauder, the founder of Estee Lauder Cosmetics.

I knew nothing about Estee Lauder and how she began her company. This book was a fascinating look into her life, and it made me want to read a nonfiction book on her account.

This book begins in 1938 when Estee meets Gloria Downing in a hair salon. Estee is trying to sell her products, and Gloria, whose family lost everything, gets a job washing hair.

It follows the ups and downs of Gloria and Estee’s friendship and Estee’s business over the years.

It also gives a look into what life was like in New York City in the 1930s and 1940s, especially regarding the economy and upper and lower class people.

This book is an example of why I love historical fiction. I knew nothing about Estee Lauder and how she started her company. This book gave me a look into the early years of Estee Lauder Cosmetics and left me with the desire to know more.

If you like historical fiction or books about fashion I think you will enjoy this one.
