Book Review of
I Am Defiance
Lynn's Review
I Am Defiance by Jenni L. Walsh is a WWII YA historical fiction book that was published in 2021.
Jenni L. Walsh writes both adult and young adult fiction. This book fits in the young adult category. I read it for a project that I am working on.
I liked this book, but it definitely reads like YA. That isn’t a bad thing; it is just something to take note of. Most of the YA fiction I have enjoyed are ones adults can enjoy. I think this one is a bit YA for most adults, but it is still a good read.
When I say it reads like YA, I think I mean that I wanted more. It needed more depth and more details. Since it is YA, it skimmed over things that I wish it had gone into more detail about. I understand, though, why they didn’t. It is YA and is listed as for 8 to 12-year-olds, which is younger than many YA books I have read.
That being said, I think this book is good for young adult readers and will pass it on to Gracelyn for her classroom.
This book follows Brigitte, her sister Angelika, and their father, who live in Germany during WWII. Weaved into the story is information about the League of German Girls and the group the White Rose, both based on real things.
If you are looking for WWII historical fiction for your young adult or teen, I think this is a good one.
I’m sure we’re all very curious what your project could be. Is it a secret? 😀
No not secret at all. I have had quite a few requests from readers for more YA and kids book reviews, especially clean YA and nonfiction YA, so I am working on finding and reading more of those type of books. So the project is some YA book lists that fit specific categories. If you have an recommendations I would love to hear them!
