Book Review of
Somewhere In France

Somewhere In France by Jennifer Robson is a WWI historical fiction book published in 2013.
Set in 1914, England, Lady Elizabeth Ashford longs to help with the war effort. Her parents think she must be a lady and do what ladies do. After she secretly learns to drive and her parents punish her, so she defies them and moves to London where she eventually signs up to Women’s Auxillary Army Corps.
When sent to France, she reunites with her brother’s best friend, the man she has long been in love with.
I have read three other Jennifer Robson books. The Coronation Year, The Gown, and Our Darkest Night. I have enjoyed all three of those books, so I wanted to read her other books.
I loved this book and the writing, but it was by far the most PG-13/open door of any of her books that I have read. That surprised me because it was one of her early books.
Often, authors start out writing more closed-door romance and become more open-door romance in their writing in order to sell books. This seemed to be the exact opposite.
Some might not consider this book that open door, but it was for me. I skimmed several pages in two different spots because the details were too much for me. And really, I thought it could have been said without all the details.
Because I love Jennifer Robson’s writing, I will give another one of her backlist books a try, but I might not keep reading her older books if they are all this PG-13.
