Book Review of
The Call To Joy In Pain
Lynn's Review
The Call To Joy and Pain by Ajith Fernando was published in 2007. It is Christian nonfiction.
I came across this book when I was looking for a Christian book about finding joy in trials. I have read quite a bit about the Christian life and trials, but I was looking for something that focused more on having Joy during and after trials.
This book was not what I expected, but it was so good. The author, Ajith Fernando, works for Youth for Christ in Shr Lanka. I thought this book would be more about physical and health trials, instead, it was more about life in ministry, persecution, and some of the trials of living in a country like Shr Lanka.
This book was a good reminder that you can have joy no matter the trial. Many of the principles in this book can be applied to many trials in life. But one of the main reasons that I loved this book was that it put life in perspective. It was the reminder that I needed. Life is full of trials for everyone.
For some people, their trials are extreme poverty. For some it is persecution. For others, it is major health issue. For some, it might be the death of a loved one. But the reality is that we all deal with them.
Trials strengthen us. They shape us into who God wants us to be. And although they are not easy, there is still joy to be found in the midst of them.
This would be a good book for anyone that feels worn out or worn down by their life in ministry serving Christ.
