The Girls of Pearl Harbor book review

The Girls of Pearl Harbor by Soraya M. Lane was published in 2019. It is WWII Historical Fiction.

The lives of four nurses from the U.S. Army Nurse Corps were forever changed on December 7, 1941.

Grace, April, Poppy, and Eva are stationed in Hawaii. They enjoy the Hawaiian life that often feels like vacation. That is, until the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor.

I enjoyed The Girls of Pearl Harbor because it was different from other fiction set in Hawaii that I have read.

This book follows the lives of these nurses leading up to Pearl Harbor and also the bombing and days after. But then it also shares what it would have been like to go from surviving the attack on Pearl Harbor to fighting halfway around the world during the rest of WWII.

I hadn’t thought about how many military men and women survived Pearl Harbor only to be shipped to other areas to fight the war. I can’t imagine what that would have been like.

The author does a pretty good job sharing what it would have been like. A few things seem too unrealistic, like meeting the man you love in the middle of a battlefield you just happened to be at, but besides that, I enjoyed this book.
