Book Review of
The Last Train To Key West
Lynn's Review
The Last Train To Key West by Chanel Cleeton is a historical fiction book published in 2020.
The Last Train to Key West is book three in the five-book series that follows the Perez family.
The books are stand-alone but will make more sense if you read them in order.
I read Next Year in Havana and When We Left Cuba last year. A friend reminded me of them, so I decided to pick up book three in the series.
I loved The Last Train To Key West. It is set in 1935, in Florida, during a hurricane.
It follows three women whose paths cross during the storm: Mirta Perez, who left Cuba after an arranged marriage; Elizabeth Preston, who is trying to save her once wealthy family; and Helen, who is trying to escape an abusive husband.
Chanel Cleeton does such a great job describing the people, places, and weather of Cuba and Florida. Her writing makes you feel like you are back in 1935 Florida.
I enjoyed this book so much that I instantly ordered the last two books in the series because I wanted to know the rest of the Perez family’s story.
If you like historical fiction that covers lesser-known events, you should give Chanel Cleetons Cuban series a try.
