Book Review of
The Matchmaker Murders
Lynn's Review
The Matchmaker Murders by Catherine Gibson is a mystery book published in 2024.
I was sent this book by the author. I had never heard of her books until she contacted me, but since I love cozy mysteries, especially clean ones, I didn’t hesitate when she offered to send me a book to review.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. It made for a fun vacation read.
Penny, who lives in a small mountain town in Vermont, loves to play matchmaker. But when her latest match ends in murder, she must help solve the case.
I liked this book, but some plot holes would have been fixed with better editing. For example, in the first chapter, it mentions that one of the main characters lost both her parents to cancer; however, towards the end of the book, her father walks her down the aisle when she is getting married. Good editing would have caught that.
Also, a couple of things were repeated so often that I got tired of them by the end. I saw why the author put them in the book, but it was overdone. I think a good editor would have caught this issue.
Although I liked this book, the lack of good editing made it a three star read for me.
However, it was a fun, clean mystery read for vacation.
This book is an example of why I do not accept many free book offers from authors and publishers. Authors want only good reviews; they don’t want honest opinions. The author’s reply to my mention of the plot hole reminded me of this. I was sent the book for a good review, not an honest one, which is the frustrating part of reviewing books online. I liked the book. It wasn’t the story or the writing that I didn’t like. I liked those. It was the lack of good editing that I had issues with.
