Book Review of
The Story of a Happy Marriage
Lynn's Review
This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage by Ann Patchett was published in 2013. It is a memoir in essay form.
This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage has been my before-bed read the last few weeks. It made for a great book to read right before bed.
This book is listed as a memoir, and it is, but it did not read like most memoirs. It read more like a book of essays or short stories, which I loved.
This is the first book by Ann Patchett that I have read. I am sure most people start with her fiction books, but I started with this nonfiction one. I enjoyed it, and it won’t be my last Ann Patchett book.
Most chapters/stories were short; I could read one or two before falling asleep.
Like most books of essays or short stories, there were some that I loved and some that I thought were fine but were not my favorite.
I loved the section where she wrote about her early writing career and college. I enjoyed her chapter about her grandmother, and the one on her dog was one many can relate to.
I also loved her chapter about opening a bookstore. The chapter on the Nashville flood was also good.
I guess that means I enjoyed at least half the stories in the book. That is pretty good for a book like this for me.
