Book Review of
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie
Lynn's Review
The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley is considered a historical mystery. I would also consider it a cozy mystery because it is a mystery without a lot of gory graphic details.
Set in 1950s England, Flavia de Luce is a smart, chemistry-loving preteen. Yes, the main “detective” type character is a kid. That is what makes this book so fun. Flavia lives with her father and sisters in a once-grand mansion.
The author does a great job of describing the setting and the characters in this book. I felt like I was there in England with Flavia.
This book and series have been recommended by several readers and I can’t believe that it took me so long to pick up book one. I will definitely be reading more books in this series. I think it would make a great series to read in the fall and winter.
