Book Review of
The Women of Oak Ridge
Lynn's Review
The Women of Oak Ridge by Michelle Shocklee is a historical fiction book published in 2025.
The Women of Oak Ridge is a dual timeline WWII book.
It is set in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, during 1944 and 1979.
In 1944, Maebelle begins her new government job, which involves many secrets.
In 1979, Maebelle’s niece visits Oak Ridge to see her aunt and research Oak Ridge for her thesis.
I love WWII historical fiction, but I especially love WWII books set in the United States. So many books have been written about Europe during the war, and I see why, but I enjoy lesser known stories like those about the U.S. during the war.
I knew a little bit about the role Oak Ridge, Hanford, and Los Alamos played in WWII, but I don’t think I have read anything about Oak Ridge during the war, so I really enjoyed this book.
The Women of Oak Ridge is about secrets, war, friendships, and forgiveness.
I don’t always love dual timeline books, but I thought this one was well done, and it merged the two time periods well.
If you enjoy WWII historical fiction and are looking for something different than other WWII books, you will enjoy this one. It is a Christian book, but I think anyone will enjoy this one.
