Book Review of
Walking Through Fire
Lynn's Review
Walking Through Fire by Vaneeth Rendall Risner is a Christian memoir published in 2021.
I love all kinds of memoirs but lately, I have been drawn to Christian memoirs and have added several to my to-be-read stack.
I read Veneetha’s book The Scars that Have Shaped Me several years ago. Veneetha has an amazing story of surviving polio, only to develop post polio syndrome as an adult.
Her first book covers her story of living a life of physical pain. I really enjoyed it, so I knew that I wanted to read her newer book Walking Through Fire.
In Walking Through Fire Vaneetha shares her story of losing a child, her husband’s affair, and their divorce all while dealing with her health problems and chronic pain.
I read this book in two days. I could not put it down. You can’t always say that about Christian memories. I have read some great Christian memoirs, but not all of them are ones you can’t put down. This one was one that I wanted to just keep reading. It was a hard story, but I just wanted to keep reading it.
Vaneetha shares her story in such a real and raw way. She is honest. Her life has not been easy and she has not always dealt with it in the best way. She shares real life and the emotions she has had through it all. But she does it in a way that points you to Christ.
She shares how suffering forced her to Christ. One of my favorite quotes from the book sums it up well.
“Suffering-not suffering itself, but turning to God in suffering- gave me an experience of God that was transformative. And breathtakingly beautiful.”
This book was just the reminder I needed after a difficult few years of health issues. May our pain force us to rely on Christ more.
