Books Similar To The Feather Thief

It is no secret that my husband and I both loved The Feather Thief book so we have been on a quest to find books similar to it.

No book is going to be exactly the same as another book. What would be the fun of that? We want books to be different. It keeps our reading interesting and fun.

When I say that I want to find a book similar to The Feather Thief I mean a book with the same feel.

If you have not read The Feather Thief, or are not familiar with it, it is a true crime book about feathers and fly fishing.

Yes, feathers and fly fishing.

After I finished the book I said, “I had no idea that fly fishing and feathers could be so interesting.”

The Feather Thief combines feathers, fly fishing, London’s Royal Academy of Music, a twenty-year-old American, and a bizarre crime.

It is true crime, narrative nonfiction at its best. Once I started it I could not put it down.

When I say I want a book similar to The Feather Thief, I mean that I want a nonmurder true crime book that takes me on a wild adventure.

I want a true crime book that takes me to a world that I know nothing about, but I like it without the bloody, gory, details of murder.

I have recently read a few books that read very similar to The Feather Thief but were also very different because the topics were very different.

Books Like The Feather Thief

The Art Thief by Michael Finkle. This book takes you to the world of European art.

Stephane Breitwiser and his girlfriend, travel Europe stealing art. It took years for authorities to track them down and solve the case. It is a bizarre and fascinating true crime story of art and obsession.

I do not know a lot about art and museums, but I found this book fascinating.

Tree Thieves by Lyndsie Bourgon. This book has not gotten the attention that it deserves. I grew up in a small logging town in Oregon, so this book took me back to a time and place that I know well. However, I knew nothing about the crime of stealing trees and rare wood.

This book was a wild ride into the logging industry, the political divisiveness of it, the drug use and poverty in logging communities, and so much more.

This book is a great read for not only true crime lovers but anyone who loves books about nature.

The Orchard Thief by Susan Orlean. I just finished this book a few weeks ago. This book was published in 2014, so it is a backlist true crime book. It takes you into the world of orchids and the obsession that people have with them.

This is a true crime book, but it is also a book about Florida and its flower culture. I really enjoyed this book, but it didn’t cover as much true crime as I expected. That doesn’t make it bad, but it does make it a little different than The Feather Thief or Tree Thieves.

Because this book is about more than just crime, I think it is a book that is good for true crime lovers, but also for those who love books about nature, gardening, and flowers I think you will enjoy this one.

The Man Who Loved Books Too Much by Allison Bartlett. A book that mixes true crime and books? Yes, please! This book was a fascinating look into the rare book world and the lengths people will go to have a rare book that they want.

The main character in this book is hard to like. What he does, does not make sense. But wow, I had no idea what went on behind the scenes in the rare book world.

This book was a bit of a slower read for me. It wasn’t quite as narrative nonfiction as the books above, but it was still well worth reading.

This is a good book for true crime lovers and anyone who loves books about books.

Bad Blood by John Carreyrou. I can’t have a true crime book list without including this book. I read this book back in 2018 shortly after it was released. I instantly loved it.

This is a medical true crime book, so it is different than the other books on the list. But it takes you on a wild adventure into the world of medicine and technology.

If you follow the news you might have heard a little bit about Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos. Elizabeth Holmes claimed that she was going to change the medical world. Instead, she committed one of the biggest frauds in the tech and medical world.

This book is not only for anyone who enjoys true crime but also a great read for those who work in the medical or tech world.
