February 2024 was another great reading month for me, but for a not-so-great reason. I feel like I have said that too many times over the last year.
Early in February, I caught some respiratory sickness that hit me hard for about three weeks.
That means it flared my asthma, and I wasn’t able to do much. Except for reading, I got a lot of reading done this month.
Amid health issues, one of the things that I am grateful for is that I love to read. I have never watched a lot of TV or movies. I have always loved to read, so I am glad that reading is something that I can easily do, even when I don’t feel well.
Now, let’s talk about what I read in February.
I read quite a bit of fiction this month, but I also managed to read four nonfiction books.
February 2024 Reads
Fiction
Click on the title of the book for the full review.
I Am Defiance by Jenni L. Walsh. I read this for a project I am working on, and I enjoyed this YA historical fiction book.
Somewhere In France by Jennifer Robson. I liked this one, but didn’t love it.
The Brutal Telling by Louise Penny. This wasn’t my favorite Louise Penny book, but I liked it enough to read the next one in the series immediately after finishing it.
The Great Alone by Kristen Hannah. This book was so hard and yet so good. What can I say? I really do love historical fiction that reads like real life.
Bury Your Dead by Louise Penny. This was by far by favorite Louise Penny book that I have read. I loved this one. It was like three mysteries in one.
To Spark A Match by Jen Turano. This was the right book at the right time for me. It was a mindless, easy to read book when I couldn’t focus on a lot.
The Queen’s Fortune by Allison Pataki. I like Allison Pataki’s writing, but I didn’t love this one.
The Phoenix Crown by Kate Quinn and Janie Chang. I love Kate Quinn’s writing, so it is painful to say that this was a one and a half or two star read for me. I almost didn’t finish it. I explain why in the full review.
Nonfiction
This Is the Story of a Happy Marriage by Ann Patchett. This is the first Ann Patchett book that I have read. Yes, I started with one of her nonfiction books. I enjoyed it and can’t wait to read one of her fiction books.
Rescue at Los Banos by Bruce Henderson. I enjoyed this book about the rescue of a WWII prisoner of war camp in the Philippines.
Christian Nonfiction
Elisabeth Elliot by Lucy S. R. Austen. I have a lot to say about this one and will share it soon for a Sunday Reading post.
Lit by Tony Reinke. This is one of the best books on Christians and reading that I have read. It was published over ten years ago, but it articulated well some of the things that I have been thinking about the online Christian book and Christian book influencer world. I plan to share more about this one soon, too, in a Sunday Reading post.
I would love to hear what you have been reading. Did you read any great books in February?
Oh I have got to read Lit!
I think you will enjoy it! It is a thought provoking read.
Me too😇. Also I forgot to mention I just finished Radium Girls, a horrifying piece of history that I had never heard about.
On a lighter note The Chilbury Ladies Choir which I really enjoyed as my bedtime reading. Had to read radium girls during day.
In my book journal I make note of your books with an FOB, lots of fobs in there☺️.
