Book Review of
A Match In the Making
A Match In the Making by Jen Turano was published in 2023.
Miss Gwendolyn Brinley accepted a temporary paid companion position for the Newport summer season. She believed it would be fun to spend the summer in America’s most exclusive town, but she suddenly finds her summer turning anything but amusing. Her employer expects her to take over as an assistant matchmaker. Gwendolyn finds herself working for Mr. Walter Townsend, the catch of the Season, but whom Gwendolyn finds beyond irritating.
Walter Townsend’s reluctant search for a wife is for the sake of his motherless, misbehaved children, who keep losing their governess. He wasn’t expecting Miss Brinley, who turns his quest for a new wife into a complete disaster.
Lynn's Review
Amazon has A Match In the Making by Jen Turano listed as a Christian Historical Romance. It is that, but I think it is more of a Christian Historical rom-com.
This book reads like a rom-com that was set in the Gilded Age. There was definitely comedy mixed in with the romance. A Match in the Making was also totally unrealistic. Yet, at the same time, it was a fun read.
If you enjoy clean romance books, I think you will love this one. It is a Hallmark movie in book form. It is listed as a Christian Historical Romance, but I didn’t think that it was overly Christian.
Gwendolyn Brinley wanted a quiet summer season in Newport. Instead, she spends the summer busy among the wealthy families that spend their summers in Newport, as an assistant matchmaker. Yes, a matchmaker.
Wealthy families hire her to find a match for their daughters. She is good at matchmaking, but will she be able to find Walter Townsend a wife who will also be a mother to his children?
This book is part romance, part comedy, and a nice, quick, and easy read.
