A Shadow In Moscow book review

A Shadow In Moscow by Katherine Reay is a historical fiction book set during the Cold War.  It was published in 2023.

A Shadow In Moscow is set in Russia during the Cold War. It has a dual timeline. In 1954, Ingrid married a Soviet embassy worker and moved to Russia. In 1980, after being part of the Foreign Studies Initiative, Anya returned to Russia, forever changed by America.

This book is full of spies, the KGB, and the CIA. Weaved into that is a lot of Russian history and culture. And, of course, there is a love story as well.

I love Katherine Reay’s writing and have been reading her books for years. I read her first historical fiction book, The London House, and although I liked it, I didn’t love it.

However, I loved A Shadow In Moscow. It was part history and party mystery, with a love story mixed in. I think this might be my favorite Katherin Reay book. It is historical fiction at its best. I would say that it was a five-star read for me.

I enjoyed it so much that I used Amazon ebook credits to buy her recent release, The Berlin Letters.

If you like historical fiction, especially ones not set during WWII, I think that you will enjoy this one.
