My Phony Valentine

My Phony Valentine by Courtney Walsh is a clean romance book published in 2023.

After reading Nora Goes Off Script, a friend and I had several conversations about romance books. She told me that she liked Courtney Walsh’s My Phony Valentine and My Lucky Charm.

I have read a few Courtney Walsh books and enjoyed them. I loved her book The Happy Life of Isadora Bently, and since it was February, I decided to try My Phony Valentine.

My Phony Valentine is set in a small town near Chicago, where Poppy, a chef, meets Dallas Burke, a hockey player.

Poppy’s small town restaurant is struggling because of some mistakes she made in the past.

Dallas, trying to repair his bad boy image, recently moved to town to help his grandmother recover from surgery.

This was a quick, fun read. I loved the relationship between Dallas and his grandmother.

I also thought combining a small town chef and a big city hockey player was fun, although it did feel very Hallmark movie like.

This book is a clean romance and I liked that. However, I did feel like this book lacked depth. When I picked this book up I needed a quick, fun read and this book was just that, but I would not want a steady diet of this type of book.
