Book Summary:

My Phony Valentine by Courtney Walsh is book one in the three book, Holidays with Heart, series. Poppy’s days usually consist of agonizing over my failing restaurant, worrying about her debt, and nursing her broken heart.

That changes, though, when she bumps into a man in the coffee shop and claims him as my new boyfriend. To her horror, he turns out to be hockey’s famous bad boy, Dallas Burke. To her absolute delight, he goes along with her story.

Dallas’s no-nonsense manager and his grandmother jump at what they see as a win-win solution for Poppy’s failing restaurant and Dallas’s poor reputation.

They begin a fake romance complete with contract negotiations, pretend dates, and phony PDA.

But as they get to know each other, does it become more than a phony romance?

Lynn's Review

My Phony Valentine

My Phony Valentine by Courtney Walsh is a clean romance book published in 2023.

After reading Nora Goes Off Script, a friend and I had several conversations about romance books. She told me that she liked Courtney Walsh’s My Phony Valentine and My Lucky Charm.

I have read a few Courtney Walsh books and enjoyed them. I loved her book The Happy Life of Isadora Bently, and since it was February, I decided to try My Phony Valentine.

My Phony Valentine is set in a small town near Chicago, where Poppy, a chef, meets Dallas Burke, a hockey player.

Poppy’s small-town restaurant is struggling because of mistakes she made in the past.

Dallas, trying to repair his bad-boy image, recently moved to town to help his grandmother recover from surgery.

This was a quick, fun read. I loved the relationship between Dallas and his grandmother.

I also thought combining a small town chef and a big city hockey player was fun, although it did feel very Hallmark movie like.

This book is a clean romance and I liked that. However, I felt this book lacked depth. When I picked this book up, I needed a quick, fun read, and this book was just that, but I would not want a steady diet of this type of book.
