Out of the Ruins book review

Out of the Ruins by Karen Barnett was published 2014. It is Christian historical fiction.

I read Out of the Ruins when I was sick. It was a quick easy read when I was struggling to concentrate. I found it on Scribd when searching for books by authors that I knew write quicker lighter reads. This was exactly that.

The book is set in California during the earthquake of 1906. Much of the book is set during the days before and after the quake, but it deals with a lot more than just the earthquake.

The book deals with cancer and how they treated it in the early 1900s. It also talks about immigrants and how Chinese girls often came to America for a better life and ended up as slaves.

There is love and since it is Christian it has quite a bit about God and God’s work in our lives.

I finished this book on the last day of the month. It was just the read I needed to end the month. It was a quick read, but still had some depth to the story and characters.
