Book Review of
Switchboard Soldiers
Lynn's Review
Switchboard Soldiers by Jennifer Chiaverini is a WWI historical fiction book published in 2022.
I bought this ebook shortly after it was released because I love to find good WWI books. Then I promptly forgot about it. A reader recently reminded me of it when I shared my list of WWI books. I am so glad that they did.
I have had mixed thoughts on the Jennifer Chiaveerni books that I have read. Some I have loved, some have just been okay. Switchboard Soldiers falls in the love category. I really enjoyed it.
Set during WWI Switchboard Soldiers is about the women of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. They were women soldiers, although not completely recognized as such, who worked as telephone operators during WWI.
They traveled all over Europe, including the front lines, to help win the war.
I have read other WWI books, but none quite like this one. I knew nothing about the women of the Signal Corps. I enjoyed this so much that I plan to find a nonfiction book about the same topic.
If you love historical fiction, especially little known WWI fiction, I think you will enjoy this one.
