It is always so interesting to see what books were published when, so I decided to put together a list of books published in 1973.
1973 was fifty years ago, so this could also be called a list of books published fifty years ago.
It would be hard to put together a list of all the books published in 1973. Instead, I put together a list of the well known books that were published in 1973.
The list includes books that have held the test of time. If you are around the same age as I am, or if you are older than I am, you will probably recognize several of these books.
Books Published Fifty Years Ago This Year
The Princess Bride by William Goldman. Did you know the movie is based on a book?
A Wind In the Door by Madeleine L’Engle. A Wrinkle In Time is well known, but did you know that there are actually five books in the series? A Wind in the Door, book two in the series, was published in 1973.
Knowing God by J.I. Packer. J.I. Packer is a well-known Christian author and this in one of his more popular books. It is still very popular today, but I had no idea that it was published back in 1973.
How To Eat Fried Worms by Thomas Rockwell. If you grew up in the 1970s or 1980s you probably know this book well. I wish I could find a picture of the original cover, because I think it was a way better cover than the updated version.
Upstairs At the White House by J.B. West. When I read this book a few years ago I had no idea that it was published back in 1973.
There Was An Old Lady That Swallowed a Fly by Pam Adams. This is another classic book that you will probably remember if you grew up in the 1970s and 1980s.
Farewell to Manzanar by Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston. This is a WWII book that is still popular today. This book has held the test of time and for good reason. It is an important, well written account of the Japanese Internment Camps on West Coast, during WWII.
Oh, wow! There’s some gems on this list.
