June Reading 2023

I read eight books in June, which is a good reading month for me. Two of the books that I read were five star reads for me.

Stack of books read in June

June Reading

I read a good mix of fiction and nonfiction in June. Click on the title of the book and it will take you to the full review.

Fiction

All the Pretty Places book with flowers in background

All the Pretty Places by Joy Callaway. I really enjoyed this book. It was perfect for summer because it was about gardens and gardening.

Death Comes To Marlow book review

Death Comes to Marlow by Robert Thorogood. This is the second book in the Marlow Murder Club mystery series. I enjoyed the first book in the series more, but I enjoyed this one too. I will definitely read book three when it comes out.

The Paris Daughter on white background

The Paris Daughter by Kristen Harmel. This historical fiction WWII book was a five star read for me. It will make my list of favorite books of the year. Kristen Harmel is a must buy author for me.

When We Left Cuba book review

When We Left Cuba by Chanel Cleeton. This is the second Chanel Cleeton book that I have read. I really enjoy her books because they take me to a time and place that I know nothing about. I will continue to read the books in this series.

The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley

The Happy Life of Isadora Bentley. I was pretty sure that I would enjoy this book, but I had no idea that I would love it as much as I did.

Nonfiction

The Kingdom of Prep book on white background

The Kingdom of Prep by Maggie Bullock. I love books about business and this was a fun one to read.

The Book of Charlie

The Book of Charlie by David Von Drehle. This is the book that social media made me buy or at least heavily influenced me to read. I am so glad that it did. I really enjoyed this book of wisdom from a man who lived 109 years.

Graveyard of the Pacific

Graveyard of the Pacific by Randall Sullivan. I picked this book up on vacation in Oregon. I really enjoyed it because it took me back to the area that I grew up in. This isn’t a book that everyone will enjoy, but I am glad that I read it.

    • I love her writing style, but I think what I like the most is that she usually writes realistic historical fiction that is based on events, not specific people. That is my favorite type of historical fiction. I usually prefer historical fiction books that are based on events or places, not well known or famous people. Historical fiction also often reads like fiction, but I find Kristin Harmel’s books to read like a real story and real people. She does a great job drawing you into the place and characters in the story. I also like that her books are fairly clean compared to a lot of historical fiction. I hope that helps.
