It is time for two more great backlist books. These posts are where we bring attention to books that you might not have heard of or that may have been forgotten about.
Today’s books are totally opposite books, but they are both books that I loved.
More Things In Heaven and Earth by Jeff High is a great book for fans of Jan Karon’s Mitford series. In fact, this book made my list of what to read after Mitford.
It is set in a small town in Tennessee. The main character in the book is a doctor who could have gone on to do great things in medical research, but instead, he decides to take a job in Watervalley, Tennessee in order to pay off his student loans.
Watervalley is a small rural town and he faces the challenges of small-town life and practice, but the people he meets make it all worth it. Not only does he change the town, but the town changes him.
Jeff Night, the author of More Things In Heaven and Earth, has worked as a nurse for many years. His medical background shows in his writing. He makes medicine interesting as he weaves it through the story of this small-town doctor. This is the first book in the series, so if you enjoy this one there is more read.
This nonfiction book, Alice’s Piano, is a WWII nonfiction book, so it is totally different than More Things In Heaven and Earth.
Published in 2016 Alice’s Piano is the story of Alice Herz-Sommer, a talented pianist who became famous throughout Europe, but when the Nazis rose to power, her world changed forever.
In 1943, Alice, her husband, and their six-year-old son were sent to Theresienstadt concentration camp. In the midst of horror, music, helped her survive.
I read this book in 2016 and have recommended it to so many people since then. It is a book I can’t stop thinking about
I would love to hear about your favorite backlist book in the comments.
