Book Review of
My Southern Journey
Lynn's Review
I listened to My Southern Journey by Rick Bragg on audio and loved it. I have read Ava’s Man and All Over But the Shoutin and enjoyed them both. I had a few projects around the house to work on and I wanted an audiobook to listen to while working. This one was a great listen.
This book is basically essay-style chapters from Rick Bragg’s writings in magazines, etc. Because it is essay style I think it would make a great book to pick up and down, but Rick Bragg narrating it is what made the audio so good.
His southern accent and the emotion he put into kept my attention. Rick Bragg is funny and serious at the same time. He talks about life in the south. He shares the good and the bad. The stuff he is proud of and a little bit about the stuff that isn’t so great.
He shares his love of the south and the people of the south by sharing his stories of living there and growing up there.
If you love books about the south or Rick Bragg’s other books you will probably enjoy this one. If you love listening to books about the south narrated with a southern accent, I highly recommend the audio version.
