Bookstores In Bend Oregon

If you are visiting Central Oregon, you need to visit these bookstores in Bend, Oregon

If you’re visiting Bend, Oregon, you’re likely going for the mountains, hiking, and stunning views. However, if you are a reader, you will want to visit the bookstores in Bend, Oregon.

My husband has family that live in Bend, so on a recent trip to see my family in northwest Oregon, we took time to make the trip to Bend.

We did some hiking and enjoyed the fantastic views around the Bend area. We visited the best running store that I have been to.

My sister in-law knows that I love all things books and reading, so she suggested we stop by a couple of bookstores in Bend.

She suggested two bookstores in downtown Bend, which were so fun to visit.

Pegasus books Bend

Our first stop was at Pegasus Books. It is a small shop, but it was packed full of books.

I was impressed with the nonfiction section. There were quite a few books that I had read or that we own, but I also a number of books that I had never heard of.

If I had had more room in my suitcase, I would have bought this one. It looked super interesting.

They had quite a few historical fiction books, several of which I was tempted to buy.

They had quite a few mysteries. I don’t read a lot of fantasy or sci-fi, but I was impressed by the fantasy and sci-fi section.

I did not get a good picture of it because the store was busy, but they had a large comic book and collectible section as well. I am guessing a lot of people visit the Pegasus Books for the comic books and pop culture collectibles.

The store was pretty busy, which I always love to see at a bookstore. The person who checked us out, who I think was the owner, was super helpful and nice.

My husband and I did manage to buy two books at Pagasus Books.

Both of these nonfiction books were ones that I had never heard of. They are also books that I think multiple people in my family will enjoy.

Once Upon a Prime is about finding math in literature. It sounds like an excellent book for our family.

War on the Border is about a raid on a border town in 1916. I thought it would be a good reminder that there have been border issues with Mexico for years. It isn’t a new political issue.

Dudley's Bookshop Cafe

Located just down the street from Pegasus Books is Dudley’s Bookshop.

One of the things I love about independent bookstores is that they each have their own vibe and personality. That is definitely true of Pegasus Book and Dudley’s Bookshop in Bend.

Both bookstores were great, but they were totally different.

Dudley’s Bookshop was larger, at least it seemed that way. I am guessing that both bookstores have about the same number of books, but the space is different, which makes Dudley’s appear much larger. Dudley’s had more room for people to move about and browse books.

Dudley’s Bookshop had quite a selection of mysteries and thrillers. I was tempted to by a couple of mystery books that I saw, but I was trying not to buy too many books.

Dudley’s also had a great nonfiction section. I loved looking through all the adventure and outdoors books. It fit right into the Bend culture and atmosphere. I think this is probably a popular section with all the outdoor enthusiasts that visit Bend.

I loved the stairs at Dudley’s. I have been into several bookstores that paint the stairs like this and it is fun to see.

The section I spent the most time in, though, was the Western books section. There were so many books that I had never heard of in this section.

One of the things that I loved about this bookstore was that it was a mix of new and used books. A lot of the books in the Western books section were older used books.

If we lived closer, this set of books would probably have gone home with me.

I live in Oklahoma and have learned a lot of Native American history since living here, but I grew up in Oregon and I don’t know a lot about the Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest. This series looks like an interesting series on the history of the Pacific Northwest.

This book almost came home with me, too, but again, I only had so much room in my suitcase.

These were the two books that we ended up buying.

We bought a book about Bigfoot and a book about the West. The book about the west was one that I had never heard of. It was a used book, so the price was great.

The Secret History of Bigfoot was just a fun book purchase. It seemed like a fitting book souvenir for Oregon. I started it on the trip, and I can already tell that it’s going to be an entertaining book.

Other Bookstores In Bend, Oregon

We also visited the bookstore in Sunriver, but I did not take any pictures. I know Sunriver is not Bend, but it is very close to Bend, so I wanted to include it.

I know Bend has several other bookstores, including Roundabout Books and Bigstory Bookstore, that we hope to visit next time.
