I have read 66 books in 2016. I have a few more partially read that I might finish by the end of the week, so that number might go a little higher.
Sixty-six books is a great reading year for me. In fact, it is the most books I have read in quite a few years. In 2015 I read 53 and in 2014 I only read only 40. So, 66 books is a good reading year for me.
I will admit though that even though I read 66 books many of them were easy reads. Or at least what I would consider easy reads. I usually read a lot of non-fiction. This year I read quite a bit of fiction. Almost half of them were fiction, which is not at all normal for me.
This year I also read a lot of books I liked, but not very many that I loved. So I guess it was a great year for the number of books I read, but not so great for the quality of books I read.
Several books did stand out for me though this year. I read Alice’s Piano early in the year and it is now on my list of favorite WWII books. I loved the book and gave several away as gifts this year. If you love WWII books it is a must read.
I also discovered the Charles Lenox Mysteries series this year and I love it. So far I have read the first three books in this series and I can’t wait to read more. I am pretty sure I will finish the entire series in the next few months. There are not a lot of fiction series that I love, but this is one that I do. I am so glad I discovered it.
Here is a list of ten books that made my favorites list this year. Three of them are in the mystery series.
- A Thousand Miles To Freedom
- Alice’s Piano
- Dear Mr. Knightly
- Call the Midwife
- The Glass Castle
- The Last of the Giants
- Upstairs at the White House
- Charles Lenox Mysteries series – I read the first three in this series this year.
- Hillbilly Elegy– Updated to add an 11th book. I totally forgot about this one and it was definitely a favorite read from this year.
What were your favorite books of the year? Did you read any great books?
