I read All the Pretty Places by Joy Callaway a few years ago and loved it. When I was looking for a book to feature for this week’s Fiction Friday, I knew it would be an excellent book for summer.

All the Pretty Places by Joy Callaway is a historical fiction book set in Rye, New York, during the Gilded Age.
The Gilded Age was a time of grand houses and gardens.
In many ways Sadie is living in two worlds. The world of the nursery her family owns and the world of the wealthy clients buying from her family.
Sadie’s dad wants her to be a proper lady, but she wants to run the family’s nursery. Her dad wants to find her a husband with a place in society, but Sadie connects more with their former employee, Sam.
Saidie wants to live the life she wants, not the one that is expected of her.
I loved the Gilded Age setting of this book. I also loved the nursery and garden setting that had so much information about flowers and nature.
Joy Callaway does such a great job with the setting and descriptions in this book. It transports you to what gardening would have been like in New York during the Gilded Age.

All the Pretty Places would be a great read any time of year, but since it is about gardening it is perfect for summer.
