After Church Hurt, Healing in the Care of the Good Shepherd, by Timothy St. John, is exactly what it sounds like. It is a book about healing after you have been hurt by the church and the people in it.
The church is supposed to help and care for God’s people. But all too often people leave churches hurt, instead of helped.
After Church Hurt shares stories and advice for healing after you have been hurt by the church and Christians.
I enjoyed this book, but it isn’t quite what I thought it would be.
I have been a Christian for over thirty years. I have attended several different churches over those years, and I have been through several difficult church situations.
Those situations were painful, and I hope I never have to go through something like them again. But they also taught me a lot about humans, human nature, and how Christians should and should not treat others.
After Church Hurt was good. I am glad that I read it, but I wish it had gone deeper. I felt like it was a surface level book, meant mainly for church workers or those who have served the church in some way.
If you have been through church difficulties, you will probably appreciate this book, but you might also feel like me and wish it had gone a little deeper on healing after you have been hurt by a local church and the people who attend it.
