Edenbrooke Book review

Edenbrooke by Julianne Davidson was published in 2012. It is considered a Proper Romance or clean romance book.

Julianne Davidson is a well loved writer by those who love proper romance books. Her Edenbrooke series is a favorite for many.

Multiple people have recommended her to me, so when a reader recently reminded me of her books, I decided it was time to read one of them.

Edenbrooke is about Marianne who leaves Bath and her Grandmother to travel to a country estate owned by a long time friend of her mother’s. On the way through her carriage is attacked by a highwayman, which is just the beginning of her adventures.

I have mixed thoughts on proper romance and clean romance. I read a few of them a year. I like them when I need a mindless fun read. I often read them when I do not feel well or after reading books on heavy topics. I even have a list of the best clean romance books

However, I can only handle a few of them a year. I need to read more than romance.  A lot of people love clean romance because it is romance without all the details. I have found though that clean romance, and really romance in general, is often extremely unrealistic. It doesn’t read like real life at all.

Even though it is clean it often leaves you with a longing for a life that is nothing like your own. I like my fiction to read like real life, the majority of clean fiction reads nothing like real life, it reads more like a fairytale.

Edenbrooke reads nothing like real life, yes it is clean. Yes, it was a fun mindless read, but I only want a small percent of my reading to be books like this.

If you love clean romance I think you will like this one. If you like realistic stories, you might want to skip it.
