Facing the Moutain book review

Facing the Mountain by Daniel James Brown will be one of my favorite nonfiction books this year.

Facing the Mountain is by the same author as The Boys In the Boat, which is one of my all time favorite nonfiction books. When Facing the Mountain was released in 2021 I knew it was a must read for me. Not only do I love the author’s writing, but I have really been interested in learning more about the Japanese Internment camps during WWII.

This book is the true story of Japanese American heroes in WWII. The 442nd RCT was the most decorated military unit of its size and length of service in American history and that history has been neglected for over fifty years.

Daniel James Brown brings their story to us with his amazing writing. His writing draws you in and brings history alive. A quote from the book sums up the book well. “Rarely has a nation been so well served by a people it has so ill-served.”
