Sing Me Home To Carolina

Sing Me Home To Carolina by Joy Callaway is a romantic comedy published in 2025.
Sing Me Home to Carolina is a small-town romance book set in the South.
A small-town girl turned big-city businesswoman returns home, where she sees her high school boyfriend, now a former MLB player.
This book sounded like a great fit for me. It sounded like a Hallmark movie-type book. I loved that it was set in a small town because I grew up in one and currently live in a smallish town.
However, this book was not for me. First of all, it doesn’t feel like a romantic comedy at all to me. A romance book, yes, but I didn’t see the comedy in it.
The main reason, though I didn’t enjoy this book, was that I didn’t love any of the characters. I don’t mind tough stories and characters with complicated backgrounds, but I need at least one person that I can root for. This book did not have that for me.
I struggled to like the characters and their decisions. The one person I liked in the book made decisions that didn’t really make sense to me. I kept wanting to yell at the people in the book because of the decisions they made. There is also a lot of partying and drinking in the book, which I did not expect.
I knew this book was a departure from Joy Callaway’s historical fiction books, but I had no idea how much different the book would be. I will read Joy Callaway’s historical fiction books, but I will probably skip any future romance books that she writes.
