Lynn's Review

Strangers book by Belle Burden

Strangers by Belle Burden is a memoir of marriage.

Belle Burden spent the early days of the pandemic in 2020 on Martha’s Vineyard with her husband and kids. She felt safe and secure. But then her husband of twenty years left her for another woman.

In the midst of a world turned upside down by the pandemic, her world turned upside down as well.

Strangers is Belle’s story of her marriage, her divorce, and how she managed to get through it all while finding herself living a completely new life.

I enjoyed this book because it gave me a look into a life and world that is hard for me to imagine.

Belle and her family have an apartment in New York City and a house in Martha’s Vineyard. They live in a world of trust funds, wealth, and country club summers. I have no idea what that life is like.

I also thought Belle’s writing was great. She shared her story in a real and honest way. I read this book on the plane to Oregon to visit my family, and I could not put it down.

I don’t agree with everything Belle did, and this is not written from a Christian perspective, but I found it a fascinating story.

I will say that I recently read an article about Belle Burden not being completely honest about how much money she actually had after the divorce. The article claims she had more money than she implied in her memoir, which I would not be surprised is true.
