The American Plate book

The American Plate by Libby H. O’Connell was published in 2014.

This book combined my love of reading with my love of food and cooking.

I enjoyed this book. It was an interesting and fun read. Each chapter is on a different food. They are short chapters so it is an easy book to pick up and down.

This isn’t a deep dive into each food or category. Instead it is a quick history of specific foods in America.

The American Plate book covers everything from corn and venison in early America to T.V. dinners and processed cheese in the 1900s.

I learned facts about the foods enjoyed by George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. I learned about the microwave and the freezer and how they changed food and cooking.

If you like food and food history, this is an interesting read.
