The Courage to Commit by Shawn Johnson and Andrew East is a business and leadership book published in 2026.

The Courage to Commit is written by Shawn Johnson East, a former Olympic gymnast and gold medal winner, and Andrew East, a former NFL player. They now own several businesses.

Modern life does not encourage you to commit. It is considered uncool and old-fashioned.

As athletes, Shawn Johnson and Andrew East know what it means to commit to things. In Courage to Commit, they share personal stories and scientific studies on the importance of commitment in order to help others commit to the important things in life.

The Courage to Commit book review

The Courage To Commit by Shawn Johnson and Andrew East was great on audio. Both Shawn Johnson and Andrew East narrate it, and they did a great job narrating their own book.

Our modern life makes commitment seem out of date and unpopular, but commitment isn’t a trend it is a winning strategy. Commitment and goals are what make people successful.

Olympic gymnast Shawn Johnson and NFL football player Andrew East share the lessons they have learned on the importance of commitment.

As two professional athletes who run multiple businesses, they know the importance of not giving up. They know what it is like to work through hard things to accomplish your goals.

But they also know about wanting to give up, how boredom can ruin a goal, and how society doesn’t understand why you are sticking with something that so many have given up on.

A friend of mine mentioned she was listening to “The Courage to Commit” on audio. I was looking for a new audiobook to listen to, so I decided to give it a try.

I really enjoyed this book. Even though I am in my early fifties, I found things in this book that I could apply to my life. It was also a reminder that I wish I had been more committed to things in my teens and twenties.

Shawn and Andrew did a great job making this book accessible and applicable. You might not do or agree with everything in this book, but there are tips that I think apply to many areas of life, especially for those in their twenties and early thirties.

I also appreciate that this book is written by two people in their thirties. They are relatable to the younger generation even if they are no familiar with who Shawn Johnson and Andrew East are.

I am pretty sure I will be giving this book to all three of my kids for Christmas. That is how much I think that generation can glean from this book.
