In 1985, a white man walked into a Georgia church and murdered Harold Swain and his wife, Thelma. The Sweains were pillars of the area’s Black community.
The killer vanished into the night, and for fifteen years, the murder remained unsolved. The authorities then focused on Dennis Perry, who grew up nearby. Convicted with flawed evidence, he received a double life sentence.
Award-winning journalist and South Georgia native Joshua Sharpe retraced the murder and discovered corruption, missteps, and secrets. Sharpe end up uncovering explosive evidence that helped prove Perry’s innocence.

The wrong man received a double life sentence. In The Man No One Believed, Journalist Joshua Sharpe shares the story of discovering the truth behind the murders and how he helped an innocent man go free.
I found this story fascinating and sad. The book wasn’t quite the riveting read I was hoping for, but it is still a fascinating read.
If you like true crime books like The Cadaver King and the Country Dentist, I think you will enjoy this one.
