Book Review of
The Mistletoe Countess
Lynn's Review
The Mistletoe Countess by Pepper Basham is a Christmas fiction book published in 2021.
The Mistletoe Countess is part historical fiction and part mystery, all set in the Gilded Age at Christmas time.
Gracelynn, the daughter of a wealthy American, marries Lord Fredrick Percy to help her father’s business and save Lord Fredrick Percy’s family estate.
This is the third or fourth Pepper Basham book I have started, but the first I have finished.
Pepper Basham gets excellent reviews on social media. So many people on Bookstagram who review clean romance books love her. So, I think I am in the minority in saying that this book, and the others I have tried by her, are not for me.
I like a good, clean romance, especially a historical one, but I want the characters to be at least somewhat believable. I know that a Hallmark movie-type book isn’t like real life, but it can have real-life-like parts.
I don’t mind light and easy read, but I want them to make me think at least a little bit. This book didn’t do that. To me it was just all light and fluffy nonsense. It was just over the top unrealistic, and I almost didn’t finish it. I know a lot of people don’t like reviews that rate books poorly, but I always keep it honest.
I can see why people love Pepper Basham, but I don’t think her writing style is for me.
