When We Had Wings

When We Had Wings by Ariel Lawhon, Kristina McMorris, and Susan Meissner published in 2022, is a  WWII historical fiction book.

Set in the Philippines this WWII historical fiction book follows a Navy nurse, an Army nurse, and a Filipina nurse as they become friends and then prisoners of war.

The three main characters in this book are not based on real people, the main events in the book did happen to a group of nurses in the Philippines during WWII.

I really enjoyed this book because it was set in the Philippines. I have read a lot of WWII Fiction, and although I have read quite a few nonfiction books about the Pacific part of WWII, I have not read many WWII fiction books set in that part of the world.

This book is written by three authors and I think overall it is well done. I had trouble liking one of the main characters for the majority of the book, but by the end, I understood her better.

If you like WWII historical fiction and are looking for something a little different you will probably enjoy this one. It does have some PG-13 spots that I could have been left out and not affected the storyline.
